Boy Scout Update

Pack 283 was formed in July 2015 and was chartered with four boys and four Unit Committee members and the endorsement of the Holy Cross Vestry.  The Pack has grown to 12 boys, 5 Den Leaders, 2 Pack Leaders and 4 Unit Committee members.  The boys are organized in two Dens (Tiger – 1st Grade and Wolf 2nd Grade). The dens normally meet every week.  The Cub Scouts come from 4 schools in the Wilmington area. The Pack is open to any boy of Cub Scouting age (6-11 years old).  The Pack normally meets the last Friday of each month.

Pack 283 has just completed annual popcorn sales fund raiser.  Nine Cub Scouts sold just over $3,000 worth of popcorn.  The Pack will receive 30% or just over $1,000 to fund our activities for 2016.  The Pack wishes to thank Holy Cross members for their support in this activity and anticipate continued encouragement and support in our future fund raising efforts.

Scouting requires 2 adult leaders for any activity.  All leaders must complete the Boy Scouts of America Youth Protection program and a background check.  Additional training of leaders in the Diocesan “Protection our Youth” is required by Holy Cross.  Leader training and manuals have been the largest expense.  Cost for training has been covered by the Leaders themselves.

The Pack will begin the re-charter process in December for 2016.  We look to grow and continue to develop the program in the year ahead.  Our proposed budget, activities calendar, and leader training will require continued support by Holy Cross and its membership.

Thank you.
