Parish and friends - well here we are - Thanksgiving and Christmas are upon us once again. 2015 has been a busy year with our refinancing completed, new website rollout, new scouting program introduced, newcomer and visitor enhancements in place, youth group activities continue strengthening, and our outreach programs continue to serve. We are soaring for God! I feel that 2015 is a pivotal year for Holy Cross. Refinancing our debt has simplified the budget and overall financing in a way that will allow us to build funding toward a full time priest while continuing to pay down our debt. We need your strong support toward these objectives. Trevor Hursthouse, our finance leader, along with Ellen Wells, Jr. Warden, and I visited the office of the Diocese this past September to discuss our desire for a full time priest. We met with both Cannon Stockard and Bishop Skirving. We were pleased to learn that we have their full support, as Cannon Stockard shared with our vestry at our recent October vestry meeting. We have developed a partnership with the Diocese and they will work closely with us through this transition. I am asking each parish member to prayerfully consider your pledge for 2016. If you have a previous and remaining capital pledge commitment please continue to honor if you can. This also supports our new budget expectations. We will only have one pledge per year, which covers building, land, and operating expenses. In the past we have had two budgets, one for operating costs and one for capital or building/land costs. With the refinancing of the building and land, we were able to combine these two budgets into one. The stewardship packets are being distributed now. Please try to return your pledge commitments by the first of December so we can start off 2016 with an approved budget. You can place them in the offering plate on Sunday morning, mail them to the church, or give them to one of the vestry members. No pledge is too small or too large, all are welcome!
I would also like to bring your attention to our new bulletin boards "Time to Soar, 2016” … and beyond. Your vestry developed these boards as communication tools. Please let us know what you think. I am absolutely energized and looking forward to our future here at Holy Cross. We will continue to grow our youth and adult educational programs, communications, outreach, serving our Parish family and surrounding community. There is an old Persian proverb which says, "Trust in God, but tie your camel". You have also likely heard the saying, "you can't steer a boat that isn't moving". As we trust God, we will continue to do our part, working for the good of the church and community, embracing change with faith, vision, hope and grace. Let us encourage each other, support each other and support the efforts of the church in this Myrtle Grove community and beyond. In ending I want to say thanks to our Holy Cross family, those who have invested their time and resources to give us a place to worship and a home for our church community. I also give thanks for the Holy Spirit who continues to guide this parish through our mission and the challenges that we have endured and those yet to come.
Our greatest needs cannot exceed God's resources.
Your Senior Warden, Bob
