"Get to Know Our Vestry"

Both Claudia (my wife) and I are from Winchester, VA. We came here from Raleigh, NC where I worked in the NC Department of Public Instruction in 1992 for me to take a position as a Professor in the School of Health and Human Services at UNCW preparing young people to teach in North Carolina’s K-12 Healthful Living Program. 25 years later, I retired after 47 years in Education, 15 in public schools at all levels and 32 at three different universities. We have lived here for 29 years. I am retired. I taught all ages pre-school through 94 years old how to develop and maintain high levels of fitness throughout the lifespan. Prepared young people to become future teachers in K-12 Healthful Living Education.

I like to spend time traveling with my girlfriend of 59 years. I, also, like studying and playing music of virtually all genres. I spend lots of time fishing and hunting and have been an avid surfer most our time here in New Hanover County. Claudia and I were involved in the founding of the church. We had been members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church prior to starting up Holy Cross. At the time, we lived right down the street in The Tides on the ICW, so moving to Holy Cross made a lot of sense. What I love about Holy Cross is the wonderful mix of Episcopalians and others who have come to be a part of Holy Cross from all across the land. This has led to great diversity in church endeavors and worship and just everything about Holy Cross.

Currently I am a new member on the vestry. Actually, I served on the first vestry for the church. I have been involved in just about every aspect of the church since its beginnings. My major focus most recently has been singing and playing music in the Church music group. If I could tell a new comer, one thing about Holy Cross It would be. Come and live a life with Christ filled individuals.
