The Happening Experience
Happening #66 was truly an inspired experience. If you haven't heard much about Happening it's not because it is a secret, but rather a surprise for the participants who attend. It lasts for a weekend and is geared towards high school students, however adults can attend if they are invited by a young person. This fall Holy Cross had two participants: Sofia Patrick and Nick Southerly. Both of them were immersed in this years theme which came from Hebrews 13:2 "Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it." Andrey Little and I served on the team that helped plan the weekend. After the weekend was over Sofia exclaimed,
"The Happening is named just right. A lot happens! I am so grateful I had a chance to experience a weekend that was designed by hearts filled with love and passion for God. I could feel God’s love throughout each day, bringing me closer with teenagers and adults that I now consider part of my big Christian family. The smiles, the tears, the laughs, and the many fun shenanigans rejuvenated and strengthened me to return to the daily grind. This is not something a person should think they’ll do once and be done. Now, I can’t imagine missing the next one!"
Happening is a powerful instrument of renewal in the Church. Its purpose is to concentrate closely on the person and teachings of Christ. Our faith is seriously examined in a relaxed, fun, informal, and loving atmosphere. The Happening weekend is an experience that gives those who attend the desire to understand and serve God through his Church. We are so grateful for the young people who participate and lead as team members. We're already signed up for Happening #67! If your young person would like to attend please see the registration form on the Eastern Diocese website.
