Holy Cross is thrilled to welcome the Rev. Dr. Nancy Lee Jose, to serve as our Interim Rector to help us prepare to hire our next permanent Rector later in 2020.
Nancy is a native of Washington, DC, and a proud cradle Episcopalian. Prior to her ordination Nancy earned a Ph.D. in Health Sciences and ended her academic career serving as Professor and Department Chair in Health Sciences at Baylor University. Her husband Wayne is a lay theologian, Dietrich Bonhoeffer scholar, and developer of adult education programming.
Nancy and Wayne retired to Wilmington in 2016 after Nancy served twelve years as the Rector of St. Thomas’ Parish in Dupont Circle, in Washington, DC, and Wayne served on the staff of the Washington National Cathedral and then The Alban Institute developing lay education programs.
They live here in Wilmington with their Bernese mountain dog, Hattie, and their Domestic Long Hair cat, Lacey, who is a proud rescue learning what it means to have a home. The ocean is a strong draw for both of them. The challenge of communicating the Gospel and providing seamless and faithful Episcopal liturgy in a lively and faithful way in a variety of settings as Supply Clergy and Interim Rector is what Nancy claims as ‘the center of her joy and love’ for the church that raised her.
