Rene Gouverneur started attending Holy Cross in 2010. She was drawn to our church by feeling the presence of the Holy Spirit, the music, and the warm welcome of the parish. Today, she is also attracted by the sense of community and our commitment to helping those in need. She is very excited about our peacemaking initiative with the Muslim community.
Rene has had a successful career in the teaching profession for 30 years. She taught primarily kindergarten and first grade but has also taught in the Watson School of Education at UNCW. She has just recently retired. Her knowledge and expertise in the teaching field is certainly a great plus for our parish as Christian Formation Coordinator.
Her goal as Christian Formation Coordinator is to support parents in the Christian formation of their children. She wants children to feel that they are a vital part of this Christian Community and have important roles to play. Rene states that she is very excited about the Godly Play curriculum. It teaches children to think theologically. It values their developing ideas and questions about the Christian faith. She hopes to schedule a demonstration lesson for the adults of the parish in the near future. We look forward to her leadership in our Christian Formation programs.
