ECCO Update: And Away We Go!
Remember how busy things were in December? ECCO has hit the new year running, and we are making December blush.
In January, we traveled to Charleston, SC on Martin Luther King’s birthday weekend for a retreat. We are grateful to Wilmington’s own Rev. Caleb Lee for leading part of our program based on the theme “Building Relationships”. Charleston offers a richness of history and of contemporary faithful living, and we were honored to be a part of it. We heard about the local responses after the brutal murders in June of worshipers of Emanuel AME Church, and visited the church building to pay tribute and leave hand-made tokens of our love and support. We worshiped with St Stephens and Grace Episcopal churches and shared their hospitality. These are two very different churches with their own expressions for God’s love for us all.
Lindsey Harts attended the 133rd Convention of the Diocese of East Carolina as a student delegate. Juliana Rankin attended as a student exhibitor to share ECCO experiences with other attendees. Being together with other students and leaders from Pembroke and ECU ministries gave us all time to share our program ideas and to plan for our joint retreat to Trinity Center in April.
ECCO programs planned for Lent include new ways to meditate and focus on our spiritual selves and to reflect on our connections to God through the love Christ showed us. We look to raising the roof (literally) in March at the Episcopal Habitat build now in progress.
We’d like to thank those who have brought those terrific hot meals on some pretty cold and dark winter nights. And as always, keep our ministry in your prayers.
