There are many countries and many, many churches around the world where communal meals will be served this coming Tuesday. Sometimes known as "Fat Tuesday" because it is a day of feasting to use up all those ingredients we give up in fasting during Lent. The last day before Ash Wednesday gives us a final indulgence - most commonly pancakes, waffles, or doughnuts, and king cakes before the Lenten fast.
Food, especially fatty foods, followed with festive carnivals, parades, and masquerades will be happening around the world. France, Brazil, UK, Canada, and the US follow this tradition... we all know "Mardi Gras," and "Carnival" in Brazil and Latin America and Carnivale in Italy. Other countries all have their own special foods and celebrations. Germany, "Fastnacht" with dressing up and eating Fastnachtsküchle (doughnuts). Italy (Carnevale), with masquerades and elaborate costumes. Scandinavia/Iceland…
