We will gather with a Holy Cross favorite, Christ in Me Arise, a contemporary Christian worship song written and recorded by Trevor Thomson. The song's lyrics serve as a prayer for spiritual renewal and strength. Our processional hymn is Faith of Our Mothers, a Christian hymn written by Arthur Bardwell Patten in 1920, and often sung on Mother's Day. It is a lyrical tribute to the spiritual guidance provided by mothers, set to the same tune as the traditional hymn Faith of Our Fathers.
Our sequence hymn is Spirit of God, Unseen as the Wind; a popular contemporary hymn written by Margaret V. Old. It is widely recognized for being set to the traditional Scottish folk melody, the Skye Boat Song. The lyrics emphasize the Holy Spirit’s role in revealing truth and guiding believers through the Bible. The offertory song is familiar to Holy Cross, so please sing with the band. Sacred Silence is a contemplative Christian song often associated with Steve Angrisano, though it was written by Tom Booth and Jenny Pixler. In Catholic liturgy, "sacred silence" refers to intentional quiet moments during Mass to allow for personal prayer and awareness of God's presence. The song reflects this theme, focusing on making room for God's grace to work within the soul.
During communion we will sing Holy Spirit, Living Breath of God, a modern hymn written by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend in 2005. The song is structured as a sung prayer in three verses, each focusing on a different aspect of spiritual renewal. Then we close with another Holy Cross favorite, Can We Love, a contemporary Christian song by Catholic songwriter and artist Tom Booth. The song is a call to action, challenging listeners to move beyond just "raising hands" and "shouting God's name" to living a life of true service and sacrifice.
