Holy Cross Music Notes with Adelaide

This Sunday we will start with In Christ Alone, a popular modern Christian hymn written in 2001 by songwriters Keith Getty and Stuart Townend. With its strong, Irish-inspired folk melody, the song serves as a powerful declaration of faith. It explores themes centered on the life, death, resurrection, and ultimate power of Jesus Christ.

 We will process with the beloved Christian hymn How Great Thou Art.  With roots in an 1885 Swedish poem by Carl Boberg, it was later translated and expanded by missionary Stuart K. Hine in 1949. It is consistently recognized as one of the most popular hymns globally, often sung at memorials.  "Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee; How great Thou art, how great Thou art" is a famous chorus focusing on themes of natural wonder, redemption, and divine adoration.

The sequence hymn is Make Me a Servant, a well-known Christian worship chorus written by Kelly Willard in 1982. Short and heartfelt, it is a simple prayer for humility.

The offertory is Rosemary Crow’s Weave, a Holy Cross and Cursillo favorite. Its “weave us together” lyrics have been so inspiring and meaningful that Crow has performed the song at political events and in a maximum-security men’s prison. A North Carolina native, Crow currently lives in Asheville, NC.

During communion we will sing Sacred Silence, a highly popular, meditative contemporary Catholic hymn composed by Tom Booth and Jenny Pixler, with additional lyrics by Anthony Kuner.

Our closing hymn is We Are Called, a well-known Christian hymn written by David Haas in 1988. The main theme is Christian discipleship, social justice, and unity among believers.
