What if Fixing Something Small Could Help Rebuild Something Bigger?

In just over one week, Holy Cross will host the first-ever Repair Café in Wilmington! We will be joined by 12 volunteer repair coaches – including two from Raleigh, one from Jacksonville, and three from Holy Cross. Their skills span from mending clothes, jewelry and stuffed animals to repairing small appliances, computers, electronics, furniture, garden tools, toys and more.

The event will take place Saturday, March 21 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. Please plan to attend! While walk-ins are welcomed, we encourage you to click here to register your item. In addition to repairing things, we will feature a children’s table where curious kids can take things apart. So, if you have a broken clock or radio or any such item, feel free to bring as well.

Also needed are baked goods (cookies and brownies) that we can share with our visitors. (A sign-up sheet is in the fellowship hall.) These can be delivered the day before or the morning of the event. Additionally, we need people to serve as greeters and to help with replenishing refreshments. Please see Allison Rankin (rankinar@outlook.com) for details. Let’s make this another signature outreach event for our community!

Holy Cross is excited to host our first Repair Café this month in partnership with Repair Café Wilmington, part of a global movement that began in the Netherlands. Skilled volunteers will work alongside neighbors to repair beloved items — from lamps and small appliances to clothing and even fishing reels.

It’s not just about reducing waste. It’s about community. Learning together. Sharing skills. Recovering a bit of that village spirit we all miss.

Outreach? Ministry? Maybe both.
