Meet Our Seminarian: Carla Shores

Holy Cross is excited and pleased to announce that Carla Shores will be joining us as part of her seminary internship to become an Episcopal Priest. Carla visited Holy Cross this past Sunday at our 10:30 service, as well as previously when Nancy Jose was our interim priest.
She has been working closely with Canon Stephanie Allen and together they have chosen Holy Cross as part of her seminary internship. We will share her internship with Saint James Episcopal church in Wilmington.
We are very pleased to be working with our Diocese and Carla as a partnering parish for her seminary internship. This is a wonderful opportunity for Holy Cross to provide a place to learn, serve, and gain valuable shared Episcopal ministry experience as well as being able to give us fresh ideas and support for Pastoral Care.
Carla loves our church and especially remembers when she first attended our service when Nancy was our interim. Carla is a close friend of Nancy.
Further, Carla is local, living in the Forest Hills area. She and her husband Richard have five grown children and seven grandchildren. Carla has her Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School in 2023. She is currently working full time as a certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) for Wilmington Health with specialties in Gastroenterology. She holds a Master of Health Sciences from George Washington University's PA program. She is working full time as a Gastroenterology/Hepatology Physician Assistant following her graduation in 2002.
She will be working toward her transitional Diaconate process - then moving forward through her discernment to full ordination of Priesthood. At Holy Cross, Michael Cobb will be working closely with Carla to acquaint her with our worship practices
Carla is planning to start the first of November - possibly through March or the first of April next year. She is strong in leadership, Pastoral Care and Morning Prayer as well as Preaching. She is also available to preach once per month with us as a part of her internship. Carla is planning to join us in vestry (giving opening devotional prayer) as well joining our Worship Committee during October.
We are still working through the process and parameters with the possibility of being at Holy Cross on Friday mornings starting in November. We are very excited to work with Carla regarding fresh ideas as a seminarian supported by the Diocese.
Please join us with your prayers and support as Carla continues to move forward.
Bob and Chuck
